In the late 50s, there was very little rock music as such in this country. Cliff and 'the Drifters' brought the stirrings of rock 'n' roll from America to England. Within a few months, the Shadows became stars in their own right with a string of instrumental hits such as Apache and FBI - "The Shadows sound" was established, inspiring thousands of budding guitarists to try emulating them. For thirty years, they were Europe's top rock instrumental group. Today, even though
they have not recorded or toured together since 1990, their style is still instantly
recognised and when asked to name their favourite instrumental band, most people still say |
